The Workforce Strategy for Adult Social Care in England is two years old. Created by the sector, for the sector, the Strategy sets out a 15-year plan for the workforce adult social care needs. It is helping organisations across adult social care work towards the same long-term goals. It gives the sector a shared plan for attracting, retaining, training and developing the workforce.
As a partner organisation in the oversight and delivery, we’re proud to be part of the progress being made across the sector; two years on, around three quarters of the 56 recommendations are completed or in progress. That is a sizeable shift given the scale and complexity of the work, and it reflects the commitment and action already happening across adult social care.
The Strategy is being used across the sector to support local workforce plans, influence national policy, develop resources and keep workforce issues high on the agenda.
This is important because adult social care cannot solve its workforce challenges through short-term action alone. The sector needs sustained work across national, regional and local levels. The Strategy gives partners a clear way to align that work and keep focus on what matters: enough people, with the right skills, values, support and recognition to do their jobs well.
The latest Action in Focus update highlights the progress made so far and showcases practical resources and examples that can help organisations put the strategy into action. Read it here.
